Crazy times

So...lately, I've been working on my game again, just kinda moving long here and there to get stuff taken care of. I got my bio done by the multi-talented female MC HollyHood (she's the rap mom of 412 lol) in exchange for a beat, so that was pretty cool! Here's the short version:

Born in the Bronx and then moving to Pittsburgh in 2007 by way of New Jersey and Jamaica, rapper and producer Dev Structures began making music in 2010. While working security security at a Steelers vs Jets game dealing with drunk fans and fights, Dev noticed the crowed begin to roar and as a collision of voices came together like a wave that washed over the entire stadium as Wiz Khalifa's "Black & Yellow" played over the stadium speakers. Although he never had any previous desire to pursue music, this particular moment was landmark in for him in that it changed his perception on what he thought music was all about. After the game, Dev went home and put on an old MF DOOM instrumental. He put his speakers against each other with a microphone in between and made his first rap. Even though he considers his first recording "rough," he also says that nobody told him he was bad at it so he kept at it a little.

Dev's greatest inspiration is his family who keep him grounded and focused on doing his best and being a rationally functioning adult. Growing up, he was always listening to Wu-Tang, Busta Rhymes, Biggie, Eminem, and later on Outkast, Lil Wayne, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5'9", MF DOOM, Quasimodo, Pharell, Kanye, Pusha-T, and more. Production-wise, Dev has always been a fan of The Alchemist and Ski Beatz, and also enjoys the sounds of Harry Fraud, Atrak, Clams Casino, Johnny Juliano, Sledgren, Cardo, Boi-1da, and others. His first mixtape was entitled "Masters of the Universe." He made two other mixtapes, "82 Lincoln" and "Chocolate Soy Milk," before taking a break. He is currently working on a 15-track mixtape called "Issued for Bid," which references a phrase used in the design and construction fields. Looking at the songs he's made up to this point, Dev's personal favorites, Dev chooses "M.H.S.L.", produced by Roscoe Wiki, and "Nights Like These", a self produced track.

When asked to describe his music, Dev says, "When I make a beat, I have to catch a vibe, or I won't do it. I don't know how to make 'type' beats." Additionally, he uses a lot of variation and schemes when he raps and although he claims that he's not the greatest singer, when writing, Dev keeps in mind the fact that he can indeed hold a note. What makes him different as an artist is his perspective and life experience. He didn't grow up with a lot of stability in his life and doesn't have much of an ego; therefore, he tends to make music that relates more to what he is going through at the time. "I'm schizophrenic, and that ultimately affects the relationships in my life, my views on religion, society, and by proxy, design, the living environment, and my approach to music. If life were a video game, it feels like I'm playing on the hardest difficulty level."
